IDEC, which specialises in the design and construction of turnkey projects involving logistics, industrial and service sector premises opened the doors to some students from Bourges Technology College (IUT). This day of getting to know each other included a visit to the project currently being built followed by a presentation of what IDEC does, stressing the importance the firm affords young people.

The place for young people at IDEC
A former trainee during his studies at Bourges Technology College (IUT), François is today site manager in charge of taking care of the construction of a 70,000 m² logistics warehouse for CARREFOUR and recently showed some students from his course around the building site. He answered three questions from us about his background and his work for IDEC.
Three questions for François: from trainee to site manager
“I arrived in the firm as a trainee while studying at Bourges Technical College. After discovering the various jobs at IDEC, I soon got right into the various tasks carried out by a site manager. At the end of my training period, I was taken on by IDEC in this role. My first experience in the firm gave me the basics of the job, while gradually I built on this knowledge acquiring more skills and responsibilities.”
How have you progressed at IDEC?
« Je suis arrivé dans l’entreprise en tant que stagiaire pendant mes études au lycée technique de Bourges. Après avoir découvert les différents métiers d’IDEC, je me suis vite familiarisé avec les différentes missions d’un chef de chantier. A l’issue de ma formation, j’ai été embauché par IDEC dans cette fonction. Ma première expérience au sein du cabinet m’a donné les bases du métier, tandis que petit à petit j’ai approfondi ces connaissances en acquérant plus de compétences et de responsabilités.
Can you describe your job in a few words?
“My main role as site manager involves organising the building site, taking care of coordinating the various partners involved in the construction work. I have to make sure that everyone can work together in the best conditions to ensure the project is delivered to schedule.”
How did you feel presenting your work to students from your previous course?
“I can see that I have made a lot of progress since I entered the firm. I have learnt a huge amount of stuff. I’m proud and pleased to be able to share all my knowledge with students following the same course as I did.”
