IDEC, leader in the design and construction of turnkey projects involving logistics, industrial and service sector properties, has just obtained Excellent level BREEAM certification for a project carried out for PROLOGIS. This is a first in France for a logistics project based on the latest BREEAM references.
Innovative solutions
The IDEC environmental unit and its heating experts, environmental engineers, experts in environmental protection and energy supplies, worked hard from the birth of the project to come up with innovative solutions to limit the environmental impact of the building. Hence, there was a lot of thought given to the choice of materials to reduce their carbon footprint throughout their life cycle. The layout of the buildings was also considered to encourage the well-being of the occupants, both in the offices and storage areas. Other features were also worked on, such as the installation of equipment favouring alternative means of transport at the site, the energy performance level of the buildings and the safety of the future occupants.
Sustainable developments
Throughout the construction of the project, the builders and R&D team at IDEC in charge of monitoring the certification and environmental characteristics of the building project, did their utmost to respect the environment as much as possible. A set of measures to improve working conditions and the safety of the builders at the site were put in place around the Quality Safety Environment charter developed by IDEC and applied to all its projects. A lot of work was also done on waste management with 96% of it recycled, which is an exceptional achievement. Measures were put in place to protect trees around the site and also to improve biodiversity.
A connected project
In order to achieve a high standard of environmental performance when the building is being used, an intelligent and connected control was installed. Apart from the advanced technical management of the building, energy monitoring is also planned by the IDEC Teams to respect the specifications. This monitoring to be carried out for three years will enable them to identify any ways of making improvements and offering concrete solutions to the occupants. This data will also allow IDEC to improve its services to all its clients when designing and building sustainable projects.
Already 1.5 million m² of certified property built
With this latest operation certified to be excellent level BREEAM, IDEC has now gone beyond the 1.5 million square metre barrier for certified property with the handover in recent months of several approved logistics projects for its clients across France. BREEAM, LEED and HQE certification has been awarded to projects handed over by IDEC to its clients over the past ten years. Since the start of March 2019, IDEC has in particular obtained the certification of more than 240,000 m² property they have built.
