IDEC starting work on the biggest logistics project in France for CONFORAMA in Tournan en Brie (Seine-et-Marne)

IDEC, leader in the design and construction of logistics platforms and business property, has just begun work on the biggest logistics warehouse in France in Tournan en Brie (Seine-et-Marne), which is being developed by ARGAN and GAZELEY for CONFORAMA. This 180,000 square metre project, where work has just got underway, will keep the IDEC teams busy until March 2019.

180,000 m², 800 metres long, 187 loading bays, 31 units, 270,000 pallets stored, 18 months of work… Those are the figures concerning this exceptional logistics hub, the construction of which has been awarded to IDEC. Behind these impressive numbers you can identify some innovative features concerning the social and environmental aspects, which will ensure that this exceptional project is a success.

From the birth of the project, IDEC wanted to stress the matter of social responsibility taking into account the size of the operation. Discussions with local stakeholders, including the Tournan en Brie town council and the employment agency have meant that measures are being taken  to encourage the integration of people in need, who are looking for work. The safety of the workers at the building site is also one of the main concerns, so a health and safety advisor is being employed full time. The goal is to achieve zero accidents during the work, which will take almost 18 months.

The environmental impact of this new logistics platform has been carefully studied to limit its effect. So, from the start of the construction work, a lot of work has been done to limit any disturbance near the site. The design was also worked on to ensure a standard, which can be certified BREEAM ‘Very Good’ (this is planned in the contract). However, IDEC is aiming to achieve ‘Excellent’ level certification, when the premises are handed over, which will mean that with this new project they will have carried out work to an exceptional level with more than 1 million square metres being certified.

Finally, IDEC for the first time is offering all those involved in the project (inside the company and outside) a My Project application. Matching up to the exceptional character of this logistics warehouse, this application will allow everyone to fully immerse themselves throughout the work with aerial and ground photos made available each week, along with interactive features and videos filmed by site managers showing the various events that make up their daily work.
