Following more than 30 months of construction, IDEC completed last September the delivery of a nearly 90,000 sq m multi-temperature logistics platform for LIDL, developed on a site prepared and serviced by FAUBOURG AMÉNAGEMENT. As the largest logistics facility ever built by the retailer in France, the project consolidates the logistics operations of around fifty stores within a next-generation building designed to meet the highest sustainability standards. The facility was officially inaugurated on 24 January 2025.
A NEW COLLABORATION BETWEEN GROUPE IDEC AND LIDL
LIDL, one of Europe’s leading food retail chains, has once again placed its trust in GROUPE IDEC and its subsidiaries for the delivery of its new regional logistics hub in Ablis.
Located on a strategically positioned 23-hectare site developed and serviced by FAUBOURG AMÉNAGEMENT, the project was entrusted to IDEC for the turnkey design and construction of what represents LIDL’s largest investment in France to date.
This renewed partnership marks another milestone in the long-standing relationship between LIDL and IDEC, following the successful delivery of major logistics facilities in Carquefou (Loire-Atlantique) and Chanteloup-les-Vignes (Yvelines) three years ago.
A STRONG COMMITMENT TO ENVIRONMENTAL PERFORMANCE
Fully aware of the environmental challenges associated with large-scale developments, LIDL, IDEC and FAUBOURG AMÉNAGEMENT worked closely together to minimise the project’s environmental footprint.
Measures implemented include environmental compensation for developed land, dedicated landscape enhancements and biodiversity integration initiatives.
The location of the facility was also carefully selected to optimise store supply routes, reducing heavy goods vehicle travel by approximately one million kilometres per year.
From an energy perspective, the platform incorporates a 2.5 MW photovoltaic installation combining rooftop solar panels and car park canopies, designed for on-site self-consumption. In addition, a heat recovery system connected to the refrigeration equipment enables the building’s temperature-controlled areas to be heated through an underfloor heating network.
Thanks to these initiatives, the development is targeting BREEAM Excellent certification.

90,000 SQ M OF MULTI-TEMPERATURE STORAGE SPACE
Construction of this state-of-the-art logistics platform began in January 2022 and has resulted in a facility offering 87,000 sq m of warehouse space.
The new LIDL Regional Distribution Centre includes:
44,600 sq m of ambient storage space
22,500 sq m dedicated to temperature-controlled products, including both chilled and frozen storage areas with temperatures reaching as low as -24°C
5,800 sq m of office accommodation
The facility also features more than 160 loading docks, dedicated parking areas for heavy goods vehicles and passenger vehicles, as well as ancillary buildings including a gatehouse and technical facilities.
OVER 30 MONTHS OF CONSTRUCTION
From the initial ground-breaking works in January 2022, IDEC’s teams dedicated more than 30 months to delivering this landmark logistics project.
Construction was marked by several phased handovers beginning in autumn 2023, enabling LIDL teams to progressively install storage racks and operational equipment within the various warehouse units.
The final handover took place in September 2024, with the completed facility fully meeting LIDL’s expectations.
Today, the multi-temperature logistics platform accommodates approximately 300 employees and manages 55,000 pallets in transit, reinforcing its role as a strategic logistics hub within LIDL’s French distribution network.
