LIDL recently inaugurated its largest logistics platform in France, located in Ablis, in the Yvelines department. This landmark development, delivered by IDEC on a site developed by FAUBOURG AMÉNAGEMENT, has achieved BREEAM Excellent certification, demonstrating a strong commitment to environmental performance and sustainable development.
A DESIGN FOCUSED ON ENVIRONMENTAL EXCELLENCE
Among the most demanding sustainability certifications in the construction sector, BREEAM Excellent recognises projects that achieve high standards in energy performance, resource management and biodiversity preservation.
This certification highlights the ambitious environmental objectives integrated from the earliest stages of the project and recognises the collaborative efforts of the IDEC and LIDL teams in delivering a nearly 90,000 sq m logistics facility that successfully combines operational efficiency with environmental responsibility.
The project stands as a benchmark for sustainable logistics real estate, demonstrating how large-scale infrastructure can contribute to the transition towards a lower-carbon economy.
PRACTICAL AND RESPONSIBLE TECHNICAL SOLUTIONS
A range of innovative solutions has been implemented to minimise the facility’s environmental footprint.
A 2.5 MWp self-consumption photovoltaic power plant has been installed across both the building rooftops and parking canopies, enabling the local production of renewable, low-carbon electricity.
In addition, a heat recovery system connected to the refrigeration equipment captures waste heat and redistributes it through an underfloor heating network serving part of the facility.
The landscape design has also been carefully developed to preserve local biodiversity while promoting the natural infiltration of rainwater, contributing to more sustainable water management across the site.
A BENCHMARK PROJECT FOR MORE SUSTAINABLE LOGISTICS
Beyond its technical characteristics, the Ablis logistics platform reflects a broader commitment to environmental transition and responsible logistics development.
Its strategic location enables LIDL to optimise distribution flows and significantly reduce the number of kilometres travelled annually by its heavy goods vehicle fleet.
This operational optimisation directly contributes to lowering CO₂ emissions and aligns with the retailer’s long-term environmental objectives.
The achievement of BREEAM Excellent certification confirms the success of a project that combines logistics performance, energy efficiency and environmental stewardship, establishing a new benchmark for sustainable logistics facilities in France.
