LIDL entrusted the teams from IDEC with the construction of a big new logistics platform in Carquefou (Loire Atlantique). Work on this 53,000 m² highly technical building will begin in the coming days with the project due to be handed over in late January 2021.
Another joint project for IDEC with LIDL
LIDL, the retailer that is present in France and around Europe, offers a concept of minimalist stores selling consumer products at low prices. In order to cope with its development and improve its supply chain in Western France, the brand once again relied on IDEC to build a logistics platform in Carquefou (Loire Atlantique).
Designed and built by IDEC
This project included the design, (planning permission + environmental permits), construction and maintenance and will when handed over replace an existing platform in Sautron, a few miles away, that has become obsolete. The warehouse offers a multi-temperature storage area covering almost 50,000 m² for food and non-food products. The project is based around an office block covering almost 3000 m² for the new regional headquarters for LIDL. IDEC developed its quality control system and carries out monthly safety monitoring with the French Professional Agency for Risk Prevention in Building and Civil Engineering.
A sustainable approach
From the start of the project a lot of technical work was done with a sustainable approach to limit as much as possible the environmental impact. The design took this into account with additional insulation, the use of natural light and the installation of solar panels on the roof and on the roofing of the car park. The latter will supply part of the energy required to supply power to the refrigerated units.
16 months of work
The construction of this exceptional project started in late September with the platforms being built. The teams will be working hard to meet LIDL’s requirements when using the building. It will take sixteen months in all with the handover scheduled for late January 2021.
